Substances from licorice support the production of gastric juices and, on the contrary, act against the formation of gastric and duodenal ulcers. They also cause the thinning of thick mucus from the respiratory tract. Therefore, it is used as an adjunct to relieve coughs and to promote expectoration in asthma or chronic bronchitis. In small doses, licorice promotes more frequent urination, in higher doses the diuretic effects disappear. Other effects are known, for example, to act against inflammation and increased muscle tension.
